Hiking to Barbara Falls | Eagle River, Alaska

Aaron and I took a quick trip to Barbara Falls after church a couple of months ago for a nice afternoon stroll. The views did not disappoint! They’re no Niagara, but they’re cute! IMG_4167

I heard about the falls from my visiting teacher (hey, Heather!) and I think she called them South Fork Falls. On the grounds, however, the sign before the falls entrance reads “Barbara Falls”. Fortunately, it doesn’t matter which one you look up via Google, because you’ll get directions to the same place!

Directions: From Hwy 1 at Eagle River, north of Anchorage, take the Eagle River Loop exit. Drive 0.2 miles and turn right onto Hiland Rd. Drive 3.4 miles and turn left onto River View Dr. (turns into Waterfall Dr.). Drive 0.9 miles and turn right onto River Park Dr. Drive 0.4 miles to a junction, turn left onto Ken Logan Cir. and drive 0.1 miles to end of road. Park up the road from the signs. There is very limited parking.

After taking pictures of the falls from a distance and in an effort to get as close as possible, we noticed a trail down to the river and began our descent. We couldn’t get as close to the falls as we wanted (without getting soaked) so we took a couple selfies and booked it out of there.

Isn’t that the biggest mushroom you’ve ever seen?!
